Identify the risks and benefits of engaging with a public audience in a media space. What are the risks for a public figure or person in a position of trust (educator, lawyer, government official)?
We are able to learn knowledge from social media rather than just reading books or newspapers since social media connects people in different places and at different times. Using social media to learn more about a new person can be done by following someone’s personal account. But, it does come with the risk of being engaged as well as the benefits. On TV shows we usually see a famous celebrity, whether it is a movie star, singer, or sports star. If many people are familiar with this celebrity then they can earn money from advertising. Likewise, if they did some illegal things such as drugs, people would post hateful remarks about them, which would mean they lost so much money from what they did.
How to best address negative replies and critiques reflective of your personal values and employer social media policy?
It’s important to keep in mind that not everyone defines their own value the same way. Depending on what you learn from their personal lives or their background, you can form your own opinion. Particularly when it comes to the social media policy, different people will have different opinions. My usual habit when it comes to arguing online about social media policy is not to broach the subject, since there is no good or bad answer on the internet for any question.
How do notable individuals use social media?
I believe celebrities should refrain from posting their personal opinions about government or society issues, I believe that people tend to be very harsh to celebrities, they expect their favorite celebrities to have the same opinion with them, which occasionally causes network violence to occur towards celebrities.
What are the benefits of being in the public eye and having a PLN?
One of the benefits is that you will be able to interact with more interesting people, and these people may not have known you before. These people may be able to use the PLN to solve their problems in life. It has significant benefits for me as it helps me meet people who can assist me in my search for internships. Through my interview experience, I have learned what to pay attention to, how to prepare for my interview. Through this process, I have been able to enhance my professional skills and am happy to have met so many people.
Building community with online tools provided by the employer can be limiting, what are the perceived restrictions and benefits?
Any image or opinion about your personal life or your opinion about something should not be posted, since it will make you feel unprofessional. It has the advantage that you can easily resolve problems when they arise, and you can meet new people during your occupational duties, who can be a useful resource at the beginning of your career.
Delivering information in a connected society requires verifiable resources, how to build a PLN to rely on?
The reason we should not make any transactions on PLN is that avatars are easily faked and we should protect our personal information. Secondly, we should invite people we know to PLN, so they can help us protect some of the secrets within it.
How do those, who are veteran storytellers, minimize risk in sharing misinformation?
I think that comment sections should be reduced on some hot topics because users have different answers to the same question, they treat celebrities as if they share the same views with them, and then become angry after finding out that they have different views, creating cyber violence.
