When I read about Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism, it is difficult to understand through the definition. But, I connected it with personal experiences and then approach learning the concept, it help me easily to understand the definition. For example, Behaviorism equals learning with changes in either the form or frequency of observable performance, When I took the first computer science course, it is a challenge for me, especially when I need to solve assignments individually, we learned a new way to solve the problem through repeat practice write code, it represents the behaviorism’s mean, it will help learn basic coding skill so that you can remember it perfectly. And, these traditional ways of learning form the basis of the computer science lesson.
Cognitive theories stress the acquisition of knowledge and internal metal structures and, as such, are closer to the rationalist end of the epistemology continuum(Bower & Hilgard,1981). For instance, it is like tests that are designed to give each test-taker the same questions in the same format, the result of result will represent how good or bad a student is academic, it will represent a lack of knowledge about a particular subject.
it will motivate students by making them take a more active role in the learning process. For example, When I prepare for the IELTS speaking test, my teacher used constructivism to teach us how to explain topics. And then, he will give us topics about education, nature, technology, and make 4 students as a group, we will talk about why it will happen and what is the benefit, and what will affect the society. We improve the problem-solving and individual thinking skills while you share ideas with others and receive responses from others.
As a behaviorist, a cognitivist, and a constructivist, they will have a different strategy to design a course, For example, if a high school social study teacher is planing a class on climate change. Behaviorist will design some exercises to help students remember keywords or important definitions of climate change, cognitivist will design a simple test, and the result will represent what students know something or they do not know something.
I think the current instruction style is more constructivist because we need to write a personal blog through reading, and it raises writing skills and individual thinking sill.
